Luxury Interior Designer

Are you tired of over-designed, dated “luxury” houses? I know how you feel. As a luxury and contemporary interior designer I create unique spaces. Long before I moved to London, I remember my design professor walking into the studio, stroking his beard and saying “Practical art is called interior design. It’s the type of art that makes you smile the most”. In other words, everyone needs some art in their life. Since moving to London, I find it’s the art and culture that inspires my work as a luxury interior designer. Hi end interior design is a way of bringing the best out of a space. It transforms it into the perfect home.

It’s All About You

You know the feeling you get when you try on new clothes and...bang! It’s the perfect fit. It feels like a second skin – well, almost. A perfectly designed house should have a similar effect on you. A snug surrounding home.

Your home is a reflection of your favourite things and daily routines. It’ll be created for you and with you in mind. It should feel just right so that you don’t actually notice it was designed! Because the best part of the interior design is invisible.

My job as a luxury interior designer in London, is to make sure you don’t notice the design. It’s about you feeling relaxed at home, like it’s meant to be. Imagine coming back home from a busy day and suddenly immersing yourself into your perfect home. A home where you feel safe and you can be yourself.

Contemporary Interior Designer

In terms of style, I’m certainly a contemporary and minimal interior designer. I think that simple and minimal aesthetic brings the best out of any space. It’s also calming and can make you feel balanced. That’s why the modern and minimal styles are my preferred choice of interior design.

Especially now, when we’re moving away from ostentatious showcase of wealth. We’re becoming more conscious of our actions. As a result, minimal interior design becomes so luxurious.

For me, being a luxury interior designer is to discover the hidden potential of the space and get the best out of it. I don’t just hide the interior under a ton of accessories. Instead, I think how can I open it up and change the layout to unveil it’s true potential. Like polishing a diamond. It’s my job as a luxury interior designer.

I love the minimal esthetic and really believe that less is more. You can see it in all my projects.

Hi End Interior Design

Hi end or luxury interior design is a service that gives you a fully customized and bespoke home. A one-of-a-kind home, designed especially for you. Moreover, everything from creating the first concept to managing the contractor’s team is taken care of.

I design every project from scratch, starting from one main idea for the space. It then evolves thanks to personalized research. I work my way down to details but with the project’s spirit present in all stages.

A Timeless Piece of Art

Being a luxury interior designer is creating a timeless piece of art. I have it in mind each time I pick up a pencil. The bespoke design is so specific to the client that if feels like painting a modern portrait. For me it has a lot in common with the modern art. It doesn’t have to speak to the masses. It only has to speak to you and your loved ones.

The most important thing about the hi end interior design is the artistic concept. A home designed to be as unique as you. Also, a space that no-one else will have.

It’s important that your home has style and it’s not only trendy for one season. In other words, not just a compilation of online inspirations. It can only be achieved with a truly exceptional, artistic process. Achieved by years of design education, personal explorations, research and experience.

Luxury Interior Designer based in London, Projects Worldwide

London is where I’m based but the projects I’ve been working on are located all over the world; New York, Hong Kong, Mauritius, Miami, Kiev, Cape Town etc. I know that each location deserves a unique approach. I’m also aware of how different you want to feel in a villa in South of France than in an apartment in New York for example.

I love working on the London projects, especially central locations: Knightsbridge, Belgravia or Mayfair. These places are the best locations for a luxury London home. Furthermore, my work as a luxury interior designer doesn’t limit me to one place.

The location of the property has a big impact on my design process and research. It gives me inspiration and a design direction. As a result, my projects look versatile, unique with a local touch. I always keep them minimal, modern and within my signature style. I stick to being a contemporary interior designer in terms of style.

Hand Sketching Interior Design Concepts

Sketching is a way of forming interior design ideas. It helps you see the right shape and proportions. Without drawing, these ideas will stay as non-tangible thoughts. As a luxury interior designer, especially in a city like London, you can’t actually create anything original without this skill. Like an artist creating a sculpture – they have to do it with their own hands.

When you design interiors you have to think spatially. You have to see the space 3-dimentionally in your head. That’s why sketching the interior design concept is so important. Furthermore, I can’t imagine a good interior design studio in London without people sketching.

Design That’s Luxurious but also Practical

Do you think that luxury goods are often missing the practical aspect? They’re nice to look at but not as easy to use. Similarly, luxury interiors can lack some practicality.

For me a perfect interior design studio is the one that designs practical interiors, especially in London. Designing properties here has taught me to be space conscious and also surprisingly more creative! Working with limitations can be a good thing. It makes you get the best out of the hi end interior design project.

A practical London interior design studio is the one that thinks out of the box. It changes the narrow and dark houses from the Dickensian era into new, bright, modern and smart homes. It takes a bit of courage and know-how to transform a classical townhouse, but it is possible.

I found that the way to do it is to be a contemporary interior designer and to think in a minimal way. A price tag on an interior product should never be the only indicator of style. As a result the designed space feels completely changed and amazing.

Stages of Luxury Interior Design

As any profession, luxury interior design has it’s processes and stages. A luxury interior designer has to be good with ALL of them; not just a selected few. To clarify, to be truly professional you have to be great with the entire process. From concept to completion.

This includes: concept design, sketching, technical drawings, joinery design, furniture, interior architecture but also be a project manager. So, before investing in the new home it’s good to know the design stages:

1. Concept Design – the Creative Stage

Designing the concept is my favourite part of the hi end interior design. It’s the part where I’m doing my research and discovering interesting stories. Stories about both the space and the people that will be living there, i.e. you!

When I start designing a project I consider what’s the most important idea for the space. First of all, I analyse the surrounds and the culture. I think of a story and I build the design around it.

Then, I decide on the main idea – the “spirit of the project” and start hand sketching ideas. It ends with a full concept design for the entire home / property. If you want to find out more about the concept stage, I described it in detail here.

2. Design Development and Technical Design

This serious sounding stage is very important. Firstly, it’s about refining and developing the concept design. The Devil is in the details and now it’s the time to perfect them. It’s all about the excellence.

Secondly, it’s preparing all the technical documentation so everyone involved can understand the concept. And believe me, it’s quite a challenge. In this stage being agile and experienced is a must! The amount of; detailed technical drawings, specifications, schedules is huge. That’s why a true luxury interior designer has to know all the technical aspects of interior design.

For example, how the joinery is constructed or how to detail a bathroom. Designers who can only pick pretty pillows and curtains fall flat in this stage.

When I was working for the top London interior design studios, I was lucky to learn every single stage very well. There was no special treatment. It gave me the complete and thorough experience!

If the whole team of; builders, consultants, project managers, suppliers and the client are on the same page, it means the luxury interior designer did the job. Preparation, planning and good co-ordination is what makes or breaks the project.

3. Construction

The construction stage of a project may look like a bombsite. In other words, it can be a giant headache with a new problem coming up every day. There’s only one way to avoid any disaster and unwanted loss of money. It’s to invest in a great design with a lot of planning beforehand. That’s why a great luxury interior designer can save you many costly mistakes.

The construction stage is the responsibility of the contractor and the architect. Although, a London based luxury interior designer like me, will still make sure everything is running smoothly. I’ll check if the the team is building everything as per the design.

At this stage people on site are asking a lot of questions. Interior designer has to be very technically minded to answer it. Good communication is key and can save delays on site.

The quality of build is the most important, especially in minimal style projects. That’s why as a contemporary and modern interior designer I always make sure that the contractor’s team is paying special attention to details. This way you can get the true beauty of minimal interior design.

4. Procurement and Installation

Can you buy the furniture for me and take care of deliveries? I want to get a ready-to-move-in home where everything is already in place.” That’s a question I hear a lot. The answer is yes. When you collect the key to your new home it’s all ready for you, including bathrobes and slippers!

Managing a project, with not only the builders but also furniture and lighting suppliers are involved can be overwhelming for the client. That’s why, the turnkey hi-end interior design service is so in demand. Probably around 80% of all luxury interior design projects in London are done this way. The big benefit is that you can get rid of that responsibility and spend your valuable time elsewhere.

The designer is managing the procurement, overseeing the delivery and installation. During the process, all the items are insured and handled with extra care (white glove installation). It’ll give you that extra peace of mind.

This became a new standard within all interior design studios in London.

Why is my interior design style minimal?

Because that’s the way to design experiences rather than objects. I’m definitely a contemporary interior designer with a modern and minimal style. I think that when our mind is focused on minimal beautiful forms it’s easier to think and observe the world around us. I get inspired by modern art a lot.

A home in a minimal style actually benefits you a lot. Experts say that to achieve true deep work and increase productivity it’s important to get rid of distractions around you. Book Deep Work by Cal Newport is a great read if you want to explore it more.

Most of people I’m designing for are busy with important work that needs a lot of focus. Minimal modern interior can definitely help achieving it. Contemporary minimal spaces above all help you think and focus on important issues. I believe the reason that interior design exists is simply to make life nicer and easier.

Getting Rid of Design Distractions

Getting rid of the distractions (decorations and shiny materials) allows you to focus, be more productive or to relax and calm down easier.

The beauty of simple forms and shapes paired with natural raw materials help your mind calm down. It’s like with having a tidy desk. It’s so much easier to gather your thoughts and work when everything around is tidy.

Hi end interior design is not about adding more expensive things to your house. It’s the art of creating the experience, the best possible home without unnecessary embellishment.

That’s why, when at a drawing board, I always put my modern interior designer’s hat on. It’s definitely my favourite way of working.

The Educated Artistic Touch

Contrary to some belief, talent is not everything for an interior designer. It takes us many years of education followed by extensive experience. It’s about becoming a professional in every aspect of interior design and art.

Initially I learnt about all visual arts. Recognising the perfect proportions and balance is so important in hi end interior design.

You firstly study modern art, painting, sculpture, graphic design, photography etc. It gives you the sense of a universal beauty that is a part of all visual arts. This is what will make a luxury interior designer out of you.

For me it started with a dream of getting into the University of Art with a fierce admission process and space for only 10 students. It took me 3 years of drawing classes with an eccentric artist. Just to get ready for the difficult admission exam. I got in and spend another 5 years learning about creating perfect forms and proportions. I actually never stopped learning. It’s very important for a luxury interior designer.

Summary

To sum up, being a luxury interior designer in London is creating stunning minimal homes that you can call home. In other words, it’s providing the most artistic, creative and one of a kind design that’s extremely comfortable. Each time I sit at a drawing board sketching a new concept I have the one person in mind – you. It’s the artistic creative process that makes your home so special.

Moreover, a good interior design studio in London will take care of all the design stages. First of all, the design concept, followed by a thorough technical design stage. I not only specify, but also buy all the furniture on client’s behalf and install it. All you have to do is enjoy your new, ready to move in dream home.

Finally, the finished interior is not only a home but a timeless piece of modern art. It shows your educated taste to anyone who walks in. That’s the most rewarding part of my job as a luxury interior designer. It’s knowing that my design changed you and also the way other people see you.

As hi end interior design can be a true art, the contemporary interior designer becomes the artist. Make the space you live in a meaningful one.
