Louis Vuitton bags and suitcases are one of the most famous items in the fashion world. After so many years of being present in upper class closets they became iconic and desirable by masses. Firstly the Louis Vuitton Series 3: Past, Present, Future Exhibition in London shows the history of the company and secondly it reveals the manufacturing process in a stunning and extraordinary way. I had an opportunity to see this beautiful show of light, form and color. I wanted to share that experience with you therefore I’ve documented it on my photographs. Above all I hope that this will encourage you to find out more about the fashion world. For me it’s a great inspiration working as an interior designer.
The Exhibition was preceded by a grand opening, where I was photographing celebrities: Cara Delevingne, Selena Gomez, Alexa Chung, Clémence Poésy and Catherine Deneuve.
The striking exhibition design
Inside beautifully designed 13 rooms creative director Nicolas Ghesquière shows an impressive blend of inspirational design process and craftsmanship of the French fashion house. The Louis Vuitton exhibition is nothing like standard museum display because it engages the viewer with theatre-like experience, music and 3D motion technologies. Contrast between shadow and light works very well with the space. The influence of architecture, design and fine art introduces the collection in an outstanding way. As a result it was a great pleasure to experience it.
Human touch
Firstly I’m always interested in observing how iconic designs are manufactured. It’s one of the most fascinating parts of the product’s life. As a result Louis Vuitton Exhibition was a must-have in my diary. Being a designer myself and designing furniture (f.e. Bouli sofa) I always find it amusing to see how a human touch forms a piece of material. Artisans are manufacturing each product by hand. It takes over 30 hours to produce one small bag. In today’s modern and extremely fast world a handmade piece is priceless. To sum up it’s the traditional slow-life way that makes the products exclusive.
